Technical Writers

The Technical Writer authors, edits, and reviews product documentation. This role requires working with internal resources, interviewing software developers, and attending engineering meetings to gather, write, and publish technical information for our varied audiences to produce a variety of top-quality learning materials such as technical documentation and infographics. The Technical Writer is involved in researching, planning, creating and curating, strategizing, and optimizing the organization’s IT products and services portfolio through user manuals, wiki’s and technical documentation including API documents, marketing materials, product information guides. The Technical Writer creates easy-to-understand user content and product documentation to increase product clarity, performance, and usability. The role will have direct interaction with the entire development team to capture the details of the product and convert them into client consumable materials.

Job Description
  • Develops and maintain product documentation
  • Coordinates with product management and project planning sessions to determine appropriate documentation.
  • Selects appropriate medium for the message, such as manuals, templates
  • Organizes and writes supporting documents for products
  • Uses photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding
  • Standardizes technical content across platforms and media
  • Edits documentation and online help to ensure clarity, accuracy, organization, and conformance to style guides and standards.
  • Creates paper-based and digital operating instructions, how-to manuals, assembly instructions, and “frequently asked questions” pages to help technical support staff, consumers, and other users within a company
  • Creates in-depth user guides, FAQs, technical overviews, and in-product help documentation.
  • Uses the content management system (CMS) to manage the lifecycle of technical documentation including draft, review, and publishing phases.
  • Produces high-quality documentation for web-based applications.
  • Produces how-tos, tutorials, user guides, and knowledge base content.
  • Writes software documentation from technical specifications, discussions with developers, and hands-on experimentation.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates manuals, procedures, specifications, and other documents.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates installation instructions, training material, and other technical documents.
  • Contributes to doc standards, including participating in peer editing.
  • Edits existing developer-written content in preparation for publication.
  • Writes for a variety of audiences, from non-technical end-users to programmers, system administrators, and integrators.
  • Manages the consistency of technical content and its use across departments including product development, manufacturing, marketing, and customer relations.
  • Writes or revise supporting content for products
  • Incorporates animation, graphs, illustrations, or photographs to increase users’ understanding of the material
  • Creates, compiles, and delivers software development documentation packages.
  • Adapt rapidly to a changing industry and be able to adjust responsibilities, time, and objectives accordingly.
  • Other job-related activities that may be assigned from time to time.
Job Qualifications/Requirements
  • Education –  At least graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communication, IT, or any related course.
  • Related Work Experience – At least 3 years of experience working in an IT environment or technical writer background. 
    • Experience in technical writing and product development or exposure in IT software products
    • Previous experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences
  • Knowledge –  Knowledgeable in the following:
    • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
    • Computer literate
  • Skills:
    • Must be proficient in written and verbal English communication skills.
    • Must have the ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics.
    • Must have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with an eye for prioritization
    • Must have a strategic and resourceful mindset.
    • Must have sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making.
    • Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision and able to guide new team members.
    • Must be adept to work in a fast-paced environment with tight SLAs and Project Schedules.
